RIZA Grants for Migrant & Refugee Women’s Rights Organisations

RIZA (Greek for “root”) is a four-year, EU-funded project run by the European Network of Migrant Women with partners in Italy, Finland and Greece. It channels financial support and tailored capacity-building to 99 small, grassroots organisations across the EU that are led by — or actively serve — migrant and refugee women and that advance women’s rights, equality, anti-discrimination and democratic participation. Funding runs in three cycles; Cycle 2 is open now, with a priority focus on organisations in the Southern-Mediterranean region and in isolated contexts with the least access to resources.

Benefits & funding

Three grant tiers: Micro €17,778, Small €32,778, Medium €60,000 (maximum €60,000 per organisation).
90% disbursed on signing the grant agreement; remaining 10% on project completion, full participation in capacity-building and submission of the final report.
Funded projects last from 6 months to 1 year.
A mandatory 10-month capacity-building programme accompanies each grant.

Eligibility

Non-profit, non-governmental organisation established in an EU Member State, independent of political parties, religious bodies and governments.
At least one year of demonstrated activities and an annual budget under €300,000.
Equal representation of women in governance and leadership; commitment to EU values and migrant women’s inclusion.
Prioritised: migrant/refugee women-led organisations with a human-rights mission, grassroots women’s rights organisations supporting migrant women, and diaspora-led organisations running migrant-women programmes.
This is an organisational grant — applications are submitted by eligible organisations, not by individuals.

Application process

Submit the online application form during the open call for Cycle 2 via the official funding page.

Applications are reviewed at set cut-off dates; a short initial application is followed by a full proposal from shortlisted organisations.

Selected organisations sign a grant agreement, deliver their project (6–12 months) and join the 10-month capacity-building programme.
