Master in Membrane Engineering for Sustainable Development — Master's Scholarship

The Master in Membrane Engineering for Sustainable Development is a two-year Erasmus Mundus programme coordinated by Université de Montpellier and delivered by seven higher-education institutions in six European countries. Students complete four semesters in at least three countries and choose first-year engineering tracks and second-year application tracks in energy, food, bio and health, or water. Teaching is in English.

The application campaign for the 2026–2028 intake is closed, and the next campaign date has not been published. A single application covers admission for both scholarship and self-paying routes, and every candidate is automatically considered for an EMJM scholarship.

Benefits & funding

EMJM scholarship recipients receive €1,400 per month for 24 months.
The scholarship contributes to travel, visa and entry costs, installation and living expenses, and supports coursework, research, internships and thesis preparation.
Scholarship payments begin only after arrival and participation, typically in mid-to-late September, so recipients need funds for initial travel, visa and accommodation costs.
Candidates use the same application for the scholarship and self-paying routes; no separate scholarship form is required.

Eligibility

Applicants need a recognized Bologna first-cycle or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials engineering, chemical engineering, biochemical engineering or an equivalent field, or recognized professional experience in those fields.
Final-year bachelor’s students may apply if they provide completion evidence and official transcripts before enrolment; applicants who already hold a relevant master’s degree may also apply.
English proficiency at the upper range of CEFR B2 or above is required; the published examples include TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5.
Applicants worldwide are eligible, with no nationality bar and no 12-month residency rule; an affidavit of residence is required for mobility checks.
A previous EMJM scholarship makes an applicant ineligible for another EMJM scholarship, although a selected candidate may still enrol through the self-paying route.

Complete the online application and select a first-year track and a second-year application field.

Upload every mandatory document, including identity and residence proof, degree records, transcripts, the Scholaro GPA calculation, English proof, a CV and an English motivation letter of no more than 1,100 words.

Nominate two referees and ensure both academic recommendation surveys are submitted before the deadline.
