LASCALA — Erasmus Mundus Master in Large Scale Accelerators and Lasers

Benefits & funding

• Erasmus Mundus scholarship: about 12 a year, €1,400 a month for 24 months plus a fee waiver, €33,600 in total, covering travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs.
• Paris-Saclay scholarship: about 3 a year, €10,000 in each of the two years (€20,000 total), an internship stipend of about €550 a month minimum, and travel reimbursed up to €1,000 — with no fee waiver.
• LASCALA partial scholarship: about 12 a year, fee waiver only, combinable with the Paris-Saclay award or other funding.
• Erasmus mobility grant for bachelor students of the four partner universities: €400 to €560 a month depending on destination, for up to 12 months (360 days).
• Without a scholarship: €1,850 a year for European students on every mobility path; €4,500 an academic year for Programme Country students and €8,000 an academic year for Partner Country students.
• Fees cover registration at each university, international insurance, the summer and winter schools, language courses where offered, and access to facilities.
• Non-European students doing the semester 4 internship at Lund pay €7,400 in registration fees directly to Lund University.
• Internships are hosted at partner labs and facilities including CERN, DESY, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, ELI-ALPS, CLPU, SOLEIL, Elettra Sincrotrone, MAX IV and the European Spallation Source.

Eligibility

• Open to applicants of any nationality; no residency requirement to apply.
• A bachelor degree equivalent to 180 ECTS in physics (basic or applied), engineering, or a related field such as optics, nuclear physics or photonics.
• Final-year students may apply if they graduate between June and August, in time to enrol in September.
• PhD students and PhD holders cannot apply.
• English proof required: TOEFL 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based or 82 internet-based; IELTS 6.0; or a Cambridge certificate.
• The programme sets no age or work-experience bar. The Paris-Saclay scholarship alone is limited to newly arrived international students aged 30 or under who have not interrupted their studies for more than three years, and requires semesters 1 and 3 at Paris-Saclay with the internship in the Paris-Saclay area.
• Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders must study in at least two countries other than their country of residence; anyone who has already held an EMJM scholarship cannot receive a second one.

Application process

   Create an account on the online application platform and file everything there — documents cannot be sent by post or email, and incomplete applications are rejected.

   Upload a CV of at most two pages, a cover letter of at most two pages, official transcripts with an explanation of the grading system, the bachelor or master diploma if already obtained, a passport or EU identity card, proof of residency issued within the last 12 months, and English test results.

   Give contact details for at least one referee, who must answer from an institutional email address.

   Apply by mid-February to be considered for a scholarship, or by the end of April to enter self-funded.

   Scholarship results are emailed in mid-March; self-funded results in mid-May.

   Requests to change the second-semester location are filed in September and granted only in exceptional cases, depending on capacity at each site.
