International Master in Sustainable Drug Discovery — Master's Scholarship

The International Master in Sustainable Drug Discovery is a two-year, full-time programme run by a consortium of Ghent University, the Medical University of Gdańsk, the University of Lille and the University of Groningen. It combines drug discovery science with environmental, ecological and socio-economic sustainability.

Students begin in Ghent, continue in Gdańsk, choose Lille or Groningen for the third semester, and complete a supervised master’s thesis with a partner worldwide. The programme is campus-based and taught in English.

Benefits & funding

For the 2026–2028 edition, Erasmus Mundus scholarships are not available.
The best-ranked candidates can receive a partial tuition-fee waiver of €4,000 for Partner-country applicants or €2,000 for EU applicants.
Without a waiver, published tuition is €4,500 per year for Programme-country students and €9,000 per year for Partner-country students; accommodation, living and travel costs are not included.

Eligibility

Applicants of any nationality may apply; there is no stated residency requirement.
Applicants must hold, or be in the final year of, a first-cycle degree of at least 180 ECTS in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biology or biochemistry, bio-engineering, human or veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, or an equivalent field.
Final-year applicants must obtain the required degree before the programme starts.
Applicants must provide English proficiency at CEFR B2 or higher; certificates based only on English-taught study are not accepted.

Application process

Check the academic-degree and English-language requirements.

Prepare the required identification, one-page motivation letter, curriculum vitae of up to three pages, degree evidence, transcripts, translations where needed, and English certificate.

Register in UGent OASIS and use the single application form for programme admission and the partial fee waiver.

Complete the online test sent in the week after the deadline; it contains 10 general questions and 10 questions covering chemistry, data science and biology.

If shortlisted, complete an online interview that includes a five-minute scientific presentation on one of the supplied topics or manuscripts.
