Fellowship programme: EPIET/EUPHEM

Benefits & funding

• Fellows sign a 24-month employment contract with the training-site employer and receive a monthly net salary of up to EUR 2,880 plus the applicable correction factor under national employment law.
• Eligible relocation costs at the beginning and end of the fellowship are reimbursed within programme lump sums of EUR 2,500 for a fellow without family or EUR 3,500 for a fellow with family.
• Courses in the training country’s language can be reimbursed up to EUR 750 per year if study begins during the first fellowship year.
• Training includes eight weeks of core modules and at least two weeks of elective modules; fellows completing at least 23 months and all objectives receive an EPIET or EUPHEM diploma.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be nationals of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or Sweden, and must hold full rights as citizens.
• Applicants need at least B2 proficiency in two official EU/EEA languages, one of which must be English.
• EPIET requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in an eligible health, biological or social-science field and at least two years of post-degree work in public health or applied epidemiology.
• EUPHEM requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in an eligible health or biological field plus at least three years of post-degree microbiology work, or a PhD or equivalent specialisation in microbiology.
• Degrees must be awarded in the EU/EEA or carry equivalence issued by an EU authority; UK degrees awarded before 31 January 2020 are accepted, while later UK and other non-EU/EEA degrees need EU equivalence.
• Relevant experience must be paid and documented; part-time work is counted proportionally, Master’s study does not count, and completed PhD study may count for up to three years.

Application process

   Choose EPIET, EUPHEM or both, and complete the official ECDC Fellowship Application Form in English with a CV and motivation letter.

   Submit the ECDC template through the corresponding EPIET or EUPHEM EU Survey link by 26 October 2026 at 24:00 CET.

   Email the generated Case ID to the Fellowship Faculty Office, identifying the selected path and surname in the subject line.

   If invited to the third round, provide proof of the qualifying Master’s degree and any other requested eligibility evidence.
