Benefits & funding

• EMINENT scholarship: €1,400 a month for up to two years, covering travel and living costs; every applicant is considered for it automatically, with no separate form.
• The award depends on the evaluation result and on the applicant’s country of origin, because the consortium has to keep a geographical balance.
• Holders keep the scholarship by passing the first two semesters with an average grade of 2.7 on the German scale.
• No tuition fees for any admitted student, with or without a scholarship.
• Mandatory costs are the €322 semester fee at Siegen, payable only for semesters physically spent there, and a one-time €200 enrolment fee at Vilnius Tech for students on that specialisation track; the consortium covers the Vilnius Tech fee for scholarship holders.
• Programme insurance meets the minimum health, accident and liability coverage requirements.
• Students admitted without an EMINENT scholarship can apply for an Erasmus+ grant towards the second year (semesters three and four); the programme also points to DAAD funding.
• Monthly living costs published by the consortium: about €545 in Chania, €865 in Siegen, €975 in Vilnius and €1,170 in Lisbon; in Orléans housing runs €260–450 with €24 a month for transport.

Eligibility

• A bachelor’s degree of at least 180 ECTS in electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, material science, computer science or an equivalent programme, from a nationally recognised university.
• A grade of at least 2.7 on the German scale after conversion with the modified Bavarian formula.
• Applicants still finishing their bachelor’s can be admitted conditionally; the final certificate and transcript must arrive by 1 August.
• English at upper B2, certified: TOEFL iBT 93, IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6, PTE Academic 63, Cambridge English 178, or Oxford Test of English Advanced 137.
• No English certificate is needed for a degree taught fully in English at a university in the EU, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, the USA or Switzerland, or for nationals of countries where English is the only native language.
• Open to all nationalities, with no residency requirement; country of origin affects the geographical balance of scholarships, not admission.
• No age limit and no work experience requirement is published.

Application process

   Wait for the window: the online form sits on the programme website and can only be filled in between 1 November and 1 March.

   Upload every enclosure as a PDF; no other format is accepted or reviewed.

   Submit the bachelor’s degree and transcript of records, a CV and a passport copy.

   Add two letters of recommendation from scholars who taught you as an undergraduate, of which at most one may come from a non-academic PhD holder.

   Add the optional file on soft skills, publications and relevant experience, which is one of the three scored criteria.

   Attach the English certificate unless you qualify for an exemption.

   Expect a 10–15 minute online interview with an EMINENT lecturer if you rank among the best applicants; interviews run from the beginning of March to the beginning of May.

   Admission and rejection letters go out around the middle of May.

   Start the visa procedure as soon as the invitation letter arrives; non-European applicants should allow two to three months.
