COASTHazar is a two-year, 120 ECTS Erasmus Mundus joint master’s on coastal hazards, risk assessment, climate impacts and adaptation. It is jointly operated by the University of Cantabria, IHE Delft and the University of Algarve.
Students study the first three semesters in Santander, Delft and Faro, then complete the fourth semester at one of the three universities. The programme is intended for graduates in relevant science and engineering fields who want advanced preparation for coastal risk and adaptation work.

- The programme runs for 24 months and covers 120 ECTS across three partner universities.
- For the 2026–2028 cycle, the reduced tuition fee was €16,605 for the full programme; a limited scholarship reduced it further to €3,000, excluding VAT.
- Insurance, visa, travel, living and accommodation costs were not covered; the tuition fee included programme costs plus use of a laptop and specialist software.
Eligibility
- Applicants need a 180 ECTS bachelor’s degree or equivalent in oceanography, meteorology, climate science, relevant engineering, Earth science or a closely related field, normally with at least a B/B+ or UK upper-second-equivalent result.
- Final-year students may apply after completing at least 120 ECTS, but must obtain the degree by August 15 before the programme begins.
- Applicants must demonstrate mathematics and physics preparation and meet the English-proficiency requirement.
- The programme describes recruitment as worldwide and states no nationality, residency, gender, age or work-experience requirement.
