The President’s International Scholarship of Excellence supports international high-school applicants entering their first undergraduate year at York University in Toronto. It recognizes academic excellence, leadership, volunteer service and extracurricular involvement.

Recipients join a four-year community of international scholars with mentoring, annual Career Ready Conference registration and faculty networking opportunities. The 2027 application cycle is scheduled to open on November 1, 2026.

Benefits & funding

  • The award is valued at CAD 180,000 over four years, paid as CAD 45,000 per year.
  • It is renewable for three additional years of full-time undergraduate study if the recipient remains in good academic standing.
  • Scholars receive peer-community access, mentoring, annual Career Ready Conference registration and faculty networking opportunities.
  • The award cannot be combined with York entrance scholarships; successful applicants receive the higher-value award.

Eligibility

  • Be an international high-school student entering the first year of an undergraduate degree at York University in Fall 2027 and paying international tuition fees.
  • Have a minimum final admission average of 80% or the equivalent.
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership and active volunteer or extracurricular involvement.
  • Meet York’s high-school applicant definition: be under 21 by the end of the admission year, have left full-time high school less than two years earlier and have no attempted college or university study.
  • Obtain an official nomination from a guidance counsellor, principal or senior school official; each school may nominate no more than two students per year.
  • No specific nationality or country-of-residence restriction is published beyond international student status.

Application process

    Apply for Fall 2027 undergraduate admission to York University and obtain the York reference number sent after the admission application is received.

    Confirm eligibility and secure nomination by a guidance counsellor, principal or senior official at the current high school.

    Submit the International Scholarship Application with a personal statement of no more than 500 words, up to three extracurricular or community activities, up to three previous awards, the nominator’s contact details and a financial profile; an additional community-involvement reference is optional.

    After submission, ensure the nominator completes York’s nomination form and uploads a signed reference letter on official school letterhead by the nomination deadline.
