The Flagship Fellowship is the Watson Institute’s signature entrepreneurial and leadership development program. The 2026 cohort runs 16 weeks, from 11 August to 24 November 2026, and is delivered mainly online: the opening Immersive on 11–18 August 2026 is held virtually, followed by workshops every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 10:00 in the morning, US Mountain Time. Fellows keep building their ventures from wherever they live, plan and host a Basecamp event in their own community, and finish by pitching at the Watson Summit. The Watson Institute is based in Boulder, Colorado, and collects no fees for the fellowship; partner organizations underwrite it. Several seats in the cohort carry a sponsor name and, in some cases, a place — one application is considered for all of them.

  • No fees are collected for or directly associated with the fellowship; partner organizations fund it.
  • Sixteen weeks of business and leadership workshops, financial tools and frameworks, and the Institute’s Impact Series and specialized sessions.
  • One-on-one mentorship from practising entrepreneurs and operators, plus optional mentorship sessions during the program.
  • Pitch training that ends with a professionally recorded 3–4 minute pitch fellows can reuse.
  • Event training, resources and templates, and a stipend to launch the Basecamp community event each fellow hosts.
  • Access to the Watson global peer community and introductions toward capital.
  • Named seats in this cohort: Luff (4 seats, Colorado, United States), Sustainability (2 seats, location not specified), Kenneth King Foundation (7 seats, Colorado, United States), Venable (4 seats, South Florida, United States). Applicants are automatically considered for all of them.
  • Fellows may be responsible for some travel expenses and meals during in-person programming.

Eligibility

  • Open to adults aged 18 or older.
  • No nationality or residency bar is set for the fellowship itself. The program page states that location eligibility varies by fellowship and that qualified applicants from all geographic regions are welcome, the Watson fellowships directory lists this fellowship’s location as Global, and the application form accepts any country of citizenship.
  • The same page also states that applications from outside the geographies it lists cannot be considered. Three of the four named seat groups on this cohort are tied to Colorado or South Florida in the United States, while the Sustainability seats specify no location. Applicants based elsewhere should confirm their fit with the Institute before applying.
  • For founders, entrepreneurs and community-driven innovators leading a venture with demonstrated impact and a strong leadership presence.
  • The venture should have been operating for 1–5 years with fewer than 10 employees.
  • The venture should have engaged customers and measurable results.
  • The venture should already have secured some funding, through grants, investments, donations or revenue.
  • Applicants must commit to the full 16 weeks, including the virtual Immersive on 11–18 August 2026 and the weekly workshops. The expected load is 8–10 hours per week, covering workshops, community-building events, optional mentorship, Basecamp planning and delivery, and Summit preparation. Priority goes to candidates who can commit fully.
  • No qualification or degree is required.
