The UZH Mobility Grant for Short Programs is money from Global Student Experience, the University of Zurich office that runs student mobility. It goes to UZH students who leave Zurich for a short program abroad, such as a summer school or a winter school.

The grant pays a flat CHF 500 for each week abroad, up to four weeks. A second payment is scaled to how far the host city is, and it depends on how the student travels: train, bus and carpooling qualify, flying does not.

GSE decides through a sustainable travel policy which short programs it promotes and funds. Where air travel is unavoidable, the program has to run at least three weeks before GSE will fund it at all.

Benefits & funding

  • Weekly flat rate of CHF 500 for each week of the short program.
  • Four weekly flat rates at most, even when the program runs longer than four weeks.
  • Eco-friendly travel rate by distance: CHF 50 for 10–99 km, CHF 300 for 100–499 km, CHF 450 for 500–1,999 km, CHF 550 for 2,000–2,999 km, CHF 800 for 3,000–3,999 km, CHF 1,150 for 4,000–7,999 km, and CHF 1,650 for 8,000 km and above.
  • Distance is read off the Erasmus+ distance calculator that GSE links from the page.
  • Students for whom money is the reason going abroad was never an option can apply on top for Exchange made simple(r), a separate UZH mobility scholarship for socioeconomic need.

Eligibility

  • Students of the University of Zurich taking part in a short program abroad.
  • The short program must be one GSE promotes and funds under its sustainable travel policy for short programs.
  • The eco-friendly travel rate requires travel by train, bus or carpooling.
  • A program of one to three weeks draws the weekly flat rate and the eco-friendly travel rate when the travel is environmentally friendly.
  • A program of three to four weeks draws the eco-friendly travel rate on top of the weekly flat rate, again only for environmentally friendly travel.
  • Beyond four weeks the flat rate stops at four payments; the eco-friendly travel rate still applies to environmentally friendly travel.
  • Air travel is funded only when the short program lasts at least three weeks.
  • No nationality, residency, age or gender condition is stated.
