The Steven C. Yu Scholarship is one of the named donor funds in the University of the West’s Golden Benefactor Awards, created by his children to thank their father.
Every fall and spring semester it makes two US$500 awards to continuing students in any degree programme at the Rosemead, California campus. The Financial Aid Committee decides.
Benefits & funding
- Two awards of US$500 each per semester (US$1,000 in all), spent in the semester awarded.
- At most one Golden Benefactor award per student per semester.
- Not combinable with the IBEF, President’s or Lotus scholarships, unless the committee grants a petition for exceptional financial need.
- Recipients submit a semester report on their academic progress.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate or graduate student at UWest, any field.
- At least one semester already completed in a UWest degree-seeking programme.
- Full-time: at least 12 units (undergraduate) or 9 units (graduate).
- Final-semester students may apply to this fund, although the general Golden Benefactor rules exclude them.
- GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; real financial need.
Application process
- 1Register for the next semester before the deadline; otherwise the application is not processed.
- 2Fill in, sign and date the Golden Benefactor Awards application form, including its financial need analysis.
- 3Write a Statement of Objectives (typed, double-spaced, at most 500 words).
- 4Get everything to the Office of Financial Aid by the first Monday after the previous semester ends — in person or by mail (the policy rules out fax and email, though one passage also lists email).
