The Summer and Winter Research Program places University of Queensland students on projects led by UQ academics and researchers. Student Enrichment and Success runs it with research units across the university.
Students spend 20–36 hours a week on a selected project, normally at a UQ campus. There are two rounds a year: six weeks in the summer vacation and four weeks in the winter vacation.
Benefits & funding
- Summer: A$3,000 grant for six weeks, paid as one lump sum in February.
- Winter: A$2,000 grant for four weeks, paid as one lump sum in week two.
- Supervision by UQ researchers and access to research networks.
- Participation counts towards the UQ Employability Award.
Eligibility
- Enrolled at UQ in an undergraduate, honours or postgraduate coursework program when applying and throughout the program; Doctor of Medicine students are excluded.
- Students of other universities cannot apply; exchange students at UQ can, if enrolled in the semesters before and after the program.
- A study area relevant to the chosen project and high academic achievement.
- Enough unused unpaid work-experience days (30 for summer, 20 for winter, from 30 per calendar year), so only one round per calendar year.
- No nationality or residence rule is stated; some projects require a set year level or prior courses.
