SuCat is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Sustainable Catalysis, delivered by a four-university consortium and coordinated by the Université de Poitiers in France. The partners are the Università degli Studi di Padova in Italy, the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain, and the Universidade de Aveiro in Portugal.
Students cover 120 ECTS across four semesters, taught in English throughout. Semester 1 in Poitiers builds the fundamentals of homogeneous, heterogeneous and enzymatic catalysis; semester 2 in Padua adds sustainability and circular economy plus a two- to four-month internship; semester 3 is a specialisation the student chooses; semester 4 is a 30 ECTS thesis.
About 30 students join each year. A network of roughly 30 associated partners — among them BASF, Bayer, L’Oréal, Johnson Matthey and TotalEnergies — helps shape the curriculum toward industrial practice.
Benefits & funding
- EMJM scholarship contribution to participation costs over the two-year degree: €18,000 for Partner Country students, €9,000 for Programme Country students.
- EMJM living allowance of €1,400 per month, for a maximum of 24 months.
- A special-needs contribution of €120,000 sits with the consortium, with unit costs of €3,000 to €60,000 per student.
- Without a scholarship, participation costs are €9,000 per year for Partner Country students and €4,500 per year for Programme Country students.
- Two further awards, neither guaranteed and both subject to selection: a URV/ICIQ scholarship of around €750 per month during the Tarragona specialisation, and a UAveiro merit scholarship covering tuition fees.
- An internship in France carries an allowance of about €600 per month; students at Poitiers also pay the French CVEC fee, which was €105 in 2025.
- Scholarship numbers for the 2026-2028, 2027-2029, 2028-2030 and 2029-2031 cohorts are still published as “to be announced”; the 2025-2027 intake ran with no funding available.
Eligibility
- Open to applicants of any nationality — candidates from all over the world can apply.
- A Eurobachelor degree or equivalent in chemistry or a similar subject.
- At least 180 ECTS obtained before the programme starts; final-year students may apply with an enrolment verification instead of a diploma.
- English at B2 minimum, C1 preferred, certified by TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge or an equivalent official test; a degree taught entirely in English can replace the test.
- The whole application must be submitted in English.
- No age, work-experience or residency requirement. Residency only sets the fee tier: Programme Country status covers EU member states, Serbia, North Macedonia, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Turkey, plus anyone resident there for more than 12 months in the past five years.

Application process
