ChIRS is a 120-ECTS joint master’s program in chemical innovation, regulation, and safe and sustainable design, run by a consortium of five European universities. Students complete one year of classes and then an internship, research project, thesis, and transferable-skills training.
Each cohort studies in at least two of Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Spain, with the first-year host rotating between editions. The 2026–2028 call is closed, and applications for 2027–2029 are scheduled to open in November 2026.
Benefits & funding
- The 24-month participation fee is €9,000 for EU students and €18,000 for non-EU students.
- Participation fees cover enrolment and tuition at partner universities, electronic study materials, campus facilities, extended health insurance, examinations, the joint diploma, and the annual ChIRS Symposium.
- Students pay their own accommodation, food, travel, visa, mobility, and other living costs.
- A limited number of €4,500-per-year consortium grants were awarded for the 2026–2028 intake, but all are taken; funding for future intakes is not guaranteed.
Eligibility
- Hold a first-cycle higher-education degree equivalent to 180 ECTS in a relevant field and have at least 25 ECTS in chemistry.
- Demonstrate English at B2 or above in reading, writing, listening, and speaking; listed benchmarks include IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 94, or TOEFL paper 575 / computer 232.
- Be able to finance tuition and living costs; accepted applicants must provide a guarantee of full financial support.
- The official admissions information states no nationality, residency, age, gender, or work-experience restriction.
