The Mackenzie King Travelling Scholarship supports graduate study in the United States or United Kingdom in international or industrial relations. Eligible areas include the international or industrial dimensions of law, history, politics, and economics.
The Board of Trustees of the Mackenzie King Scholarships makes the awards after each applicant’s Canadian home university conducts an internal competition. One application may cover both Mackenzie King scholarships when the applicant meets each program’s requirements.
Benefits & funding
- In recent years, four scholarships of CAD 15,000 each have been awarded, but both the number and value may change.
- The award is valid for one year and is not renewable.
- The first payment is 60% of the award and is made before the funded study year after proof of admission; the balance is paid midway after a progress report and supervisor evaluation.
Eligibility
- Hold a degree from a Canadian university by the time the scholarship is received.
- Intend to begin or already be pursuing graduate study in the United States or United Kingdom.
- Study international or industrial relations, including their international or industrial aspects in law, history, politics, or economics.
- The official criteria state no nationality, residency, age, gender, or work-experience requirement.

Application process
- 1Complete and sign the application form, including sheets A and B.
- 2Arrange three confidential reference letters; at least two must come from professors in a major subject or supervisors connected with academic teaching or research.
- 3Provide an official transcript from every institution attended, or an accepted registrar or faculty certification when an official transcript cannot be obtained.
- 4Send the complete package to the graduate faculty of the Canadian university where the applicant most recently obtained or is completing a degree; use its financial-aid office if it has no graduate faculty.
- 5Meet the home university’s internal process and standing February 1 deadline; direct applications to the Board of Trustees are not considered.
