Application Deadline

Closed · August 14, 2026

Reopens ~Aug 2027

The JYU Visiting Fellow Programme is run by the Research Council of the University of Jyväskylä (JYU) in Finland. It funds researchers with a doctorate who live and work outside Finland to spend one or two months at JYU in Jyväskylä during 2027.

Fellows do research with a JYU host, such as joint articles, lab or field work, or planning funding bids, and may join some teaching.

Benefits & funding

  • €4,000 a month as a grant, not a salary, for 1 month (30 days) or 2 months; a two-month visit can be split in two.
  • It must cover travel and accommodation; nothing is reimbursed separately.
  • Paid on days actually spent; cancelling or shortening may mean repaying.
  • Physical visits only, within 2027; the grant may be taxable.
  • The 2026 call offered up to 3 months at €3,000–5,500 a month by career stage.

Eligibility

  • A doctoral degree by the start of the visit; you may apply before graduating (award then conditional). No limit on years since the PhD.
  • Place of residence and affiliation both outside Finland; any nationality, Finnish citizens included.
  • An invitation letter from a JYU host who is at JYU for your whole stay is mandatory; each host invites only one fellow for 2027.
  • Barred: researchers already at JYU, and applications naming a host who missed the report on 2025–2026 visits.
  • Excellent English and a strong publishing record are expected; past fellows may reapply.
