The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and The Transplantation Society (TTS) jointly fund young physicians from lower-resource countries to train hands-on in kidney transplantation at an advanced host institution.
Fellows train in tissue typing, transplant nephrology, coordination or surgery, then return home to raise local transplant standards. It is a special opportunity reviewed within the general ISN Fellowship application.
Benefits & funding
- A grant sized to training length and host-country costs, meant to cover or offset the fellow’s travel, accommodation and living (not family); no amount is published.
- Short term (3–6 months) or long term (6–12 months); the host should charge no tuition.
- Duty: return home within three months and work at the home institution at least three years, or repay the grant.
Eligibility
- Within five years of your last doctoral degree.
- Living and working in a low-, lower-middle- or upper-middle-income country (World Bank list).
- Training in a renal transplantation field, relevant to local conditions.
- All general ISN Fellowship criteria apply: ISN full or trainee membership (both mentors full members), postgraduate internal medicine completed in your home country, a public home institution guaranteeing re-employment, and national society endorsement.
- 12-month clinical training: the ISN Foundation Course must be completed first.
