Visiting Fellows is a research funding program of Stiftung Charité. It brings established or leading researchers (EU career levels R3–R4) from abroad or elsewhere in Germany to Charité (incl. BIH and DHZC) or the Max Delbrück Center (MDC) in Berlin for extended stays.
Fellow and host develop a joint project and, in Tracks B and C, build a research group in Berlin, aiming at a large competitive grant such as DFG or ERC.
Benefits & funding
- Fellow: up to €50,000 a year for stays (expense allowance, travel) and the collaboration, for 1 to 3 years.
- Track B adds up to €100,000 a year for a research group (1–2 years); Track C up to €150,000 a year (2–3 years, fellow also 2–3 years).
- Totals capped at €150,000 (A), €350,000 (B) and €600,000 (C).
- Duties: at least three multi-week or one multi-month Berlin stay a year; a DFG/ERC-type application by the end of funding.
Eligibility

- The nominee must be an established or leading researcher (R3/R4) in the life sciences field, at a university, research institute or research-based company in Germany or abroad.
