Reopens ~Jun 2027

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) funds young nephrologists from lower-resource countries to learn interventional procedures (dialysis catheters, kidney biopsy, endovascular work, point-of-care ultrasound) at one of 27 ISN-recognised Interventional Nephrology Training Centers worldwide.

Scholars take a 2–4-week Foundation Course or, at 11 centres, a 3-month Advanced Course, complete an online ISN Academy curriculum, and return home to build local services.

Benefits & funding

  • A grant toward travel, accommodation and living costs (not family), sized to training length and host-country costs; no amount is published.
  • Host centres should charge no tuition; any academic costs must be declared.
  • A certificate of completion after the end-of-training reports.
  • Duty: return home within a month (the checklist says three months) and work at the home institution at least 3 years, or repay the grant.

Eligibility

  • Living and working in a low-, lower-middle- or upper-middle-income country (World Bank list); self-funded applicants too.
  • ISN full or trainee member; home and host mentors must be full ISN members.
  • Nominated by a home mentor; the home institution guarantees re-employment.
  • Endorsed by the national (or regional) nephrology society.
  • Able to communicate in the host country’s language.
  • Not already training at the host; training must involve moving to another country, or at least another city.
  • Advanced Course: hands-on training only, which needs a host-country medical licence.
