The Global Access Internship Programme is a targeted track within the regular internship programme of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN migration agency. It recruits talented young professionals who are nationals of IOM member states that are not represented, or have low representation, in the organization’s international professional workforce. The 2026 round published 21 intern positions across IOM country, regional and headquarters offices in 15 countries, from Bangkok and Dakar to Geneva and Vienna, covering areas such as protection, public health, data and research, communications, supply chain and human resources. Placements run for six months and are filled through a competitive process. Unlike the standard IOM internship, this programme covers travel and visa costs on top of a monthly stipend, removing the main financial obstacles to an international placement.
Benefits & funding
- Monthly stipend, calculated for each duty station based on cost of living; it supports subsistence and is not equivalent to a salary.
- Travel and visa costs covered by IOM — an exception to the regular internship programme, where interns pay their own way.
- Personalized guidance on accessing international careers, information on the recruitment process, and support drafting CVs and cover letters.
- Insurance against occupational accidents and illnesses under IOM’s Compensation Plan for the duration of the internship.
- Six-month placement, with a possible three-month extension contingent on good performance and availability of funding.
- No fees at any stage of the application process.
Eligibility
- Be a national of one of the IOM member states listed as non-represented or with low representation; the 2026 round listed 92 countries (as of 1 June 2026) and applications from other nationalities are automatically excluded.
- Be between 20 and 36 years of age at the time of application.
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), enrolled in a graduate programme (second university degree or higher), or have graduated with a university degree and be able to start within one year of graduation.
- Hold or be pursuing a degree from a university accredited in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
- Have a working knowledge, oral and written, of at least one of IOM’s official languages: English, French or Spanish; each vacancy notice states its own language requirements.
