TFMASA is a two-year, 120 ECTS joint master run by the University of Bordeaux, UCLouvain and BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. It trains engineers in transfers, fluids and materials for aeronautics, covering fluid mechanics, materials science, aerospace structures, energy and propulsion systems.
Every student follows the same mobility path. Semester one is in Bordeaux, semester two in Louvain-la-Neuve, semester three in Cottbus, and semester four is the master thesis, carried out at the partner university that fits the student’s scientific interest. Teaching is in English.
Graduates receive a joint diploma from all three universities. The programme admits a maximum of 20 students per year and is open to candidates from any country.
Benefits & funding
- Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders receive €1,400 per month toward accommodation, semester travel to and from their country of residence, and daily living costs.
- The scholarship also covers the €4,500 per year mandatory contribution to TFMASA participation costs, which includes tuition fees and insurance.
- Self-funded students from Programme countries pay €4,500 per year, or €9,000 for the two years; self-funded students from Partner countries pay €9,000 per year, or €18,000 for the two years.
- Self-funded candidates who already hold a degree from one of the three consortium universities pay half those amounts.
- Participation costs cover tuition, programme management and joint activities such as orientation and workshops; living, travel and visa costs are the student’s own for self-funded places.
Eligibility
- Candidates of any nationality may apply; there is no residency requirement.
- Applicants need a bachelor’s degree or equivalent worth 180 ECTS in mechanics, physics or a closely related field.
- Transcripts must show consistent strength in mechanics, physics, mathematics and engineering sciences.
- English proficiency must be documented by IELTS Academic 6.5 with no component below 6, TOEFL 580 paper, 237 computer or 93 internet-based, or a Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency certificate at grade B or C; a letter confirming that previous studies were taught in English is also accepted, and native speakers are exempt.
- Language tests must be taken within three years of the programme start.
- Scholarship applicants must enrol full time, must not have held an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship before, and cannot hold another EU grant at the same time.
- For scholarship purposes, Programme countries are the EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia and Türkiye; every other country counts as a Partner country.

- 1Apply online through the TFMASA application system between 1 September 2026, 08:00 CEST, and 1 December 2026, 10:00 CET; one application covers both the scholarship and the self-funded route.
- 2Upload a Europass CV that clearly states the ranking of your university or engineering school, a one-page motivation letter, recent reference letters on official letterhead with the referee’s signature and contact details, transcripts and diplomas with certified English translations, and your English proficiency evidence.
- 3Shortlisted candidates are contacted for interviews in mid-February, and final results are published in March.
