The IBIL Intellectual Property PhD Scholarship supports one new UCL Laws doctoral researcher working in intellectual property. The UCL Institute of Brand and Innovation Law funds the award for the 2027–28 entry cycle.
Recipients join the in-person Law MPhil/PhD programme in London and initially register for the MPhil before upgrading to PhD. Scholarship consideration is automatic for eligible intellectual property applicants; there is no separate scholarship form.
Benefits & funding
- A stipend of at least £23,805 per year for three years.
- Tuition fees for the three-year award, as stated in the current scholarship listing.
- One scholarship is available for the 2027–28 cycle.
Eligibility
- Apply to the UCL Laws MPhil/PhD programme with a proposed research project in intellectual property.
- Hold at least an upper second-class UK Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree, or equivalent overseas qualifications, in law or another relevant subject.
- Exceptionally, equivalent research or professional experience may support admission without a Master’s degree.
- Meet UCL Laws’ Level 4 English requirement when evidence of English proficiency is required.
- Applicants from all countries are welcomed; UCL publishes no nationality or residency restriction for this scholarship.
- Study in person in London; the programme is not offered by distance or on a non-resident basis.
