Benefits & funding

- The maintenance stipend is £23,805 per year for full-time study in 2026/27 as a guide, with part-time support calculated pro rata.
- Funding starts with a one-year award, renews for year two after satisfactory progress, and renews for year three after upgrade to full PhD status and continued satisfactory progress.
Eligibility
- Applicants must qualify for UK fee status and be domiciled in the United Kingdom.
- Applicants need an outstanding academic record and an excellent research proposal; financial need is essential.
- MPhil/PhD entry normally requires at least a UK upper second-class Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree, or overseas equivalents, in law or another relevant subject.
- UCL may exceptionally admit an applicant without a Master’s degree when equivalent research or professional experience is demonstrated.
- The scholarship page states no nationality, gender, age or minimum-years-of-experience restriction.
