HYGIEIA is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Health and Wellbeing across the Lifespan, taught by Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon, which coordinates admissions, together with the Universitat de les Illes Balears in Mallorca and the University of Belgrade. It is funded by the European Union under grant agreement No 101180030.
The degree runs four semesters and 120 ECTS, entirely in English, and mobility between the three schools is mandatory. Semester 1 in Lisbon covers public health, toxicology, digital tools, regulatory frameworks and entrepreneurship; semester 2 in Mallorca covers nutrition across the lifespan, physical activity, sports nutrition and food sustainability; semester 3 in Belgrade covers formulation and testing of food supplements and cosmetics, health economics and health communication; semester 4 is a dissertation supervised at any partner.
The subject is preventive health without medicines — nutrition, lifestyle, cosmetics and digital tools. Up to 25 students join each intake and receive a joint degree diploma accredited by the Portuguese A3ES and the Serbian national agency. The second intake opened in September 2026 with 21 students from 17 nationalities.
Benefits & funding
- Erasmus Mundus scholarship: full tuition waiver plus €1,400 per month for a maximum of 24 months, meant to cover installation, travel and subsistence; 16 scholarships per intake.
- Additional special-needs funding from the Erasmus Mundus programme for applicants with disabilities.
- Non-fee-paying self-funded places: tuition for all four semesters waived, including health insurance, university registration and student services; the student pays living, housing and travel costs along the mandatory mobility path.
- Fee-paying self-funded places: €4,500 per semester, €18,000 over the four semesters.
- The fee covers all classes, emergency and accident insurance to the Erasmus+ minimum, administrative support, enrolment at each partner university, all examinations and the final diploma.
- Not covered by any route: travel, accommodation, living costs, study materials, visa and passport fees.
Eligibility
- A degree at European Qualification Framework level 6 or higher in pharmaceutical sciences, medical sciences, nutrition, sports, biochemistry, chemistry, biology or another health or life science field.
- Open to applicants of any nationality; no residency requirement is stated.
- An approved English test is mandatory unless the applicant is a native speaker: TOEFL 95 internet-based, IELTS 7.0 overall, Cambridge C1 Advanced at grade B or A, Duolingo 130, or LanguageCert C1 Expert High Pass.
- Applicants holding two nationalities must declare which one they apply under.
- Anyone who has already held an Erasmus Mundus or EMJM scholarship cannot receive another, and no student may hold a second EU-funded grant for the same programme.
- No age limit and no work-experience requirement are stated.
- Up to 25 students are admitted per intake.

Application process
