Benefits & funding

• Erasmus Mundus scholarship: a tuition waiver covering programme tuition and health insurance.
• 1,400 EUR a month for the full 24 months, paid at the end of each month, and meant to cover travel and settling in as well, such as flights and visa fees.
• The scholarship period can be shortened if prior learning is recognised.
• Two master’s degrees, one from each host university, plus the HySET diploma parchment and a diploma supplement.
• The consortium pays for seasonal-school accommodation and travel over 150 km, plus health and accident insurance.
• Self-funded places cost 4,500 EUR a year for European students (9,000 EUR in total) and 9,000 EUR a year for non-European students (18,000 EUR in total).
• Beyond the regular scholarships, the EU funds extra places reserved for candidates from NDICI regions and IPA III countries.

Eligibility

• A bachelor’s degree of at least 180 credits in mechanical, energy, chemical, electrical, aeronautical or industrial engineering, or in physics or chemistry.
• Physics, chemistry, aeronautical and electrical engineering graduates must show coursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; an application is refused if the GPA sits in the lower third of its scale, the awarding institution fails quality checks, or the degree would not open an equivalent master’s at home.
• English: TOEFL iBT 90 with 21 per section, IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 per section, or CAE 160 on the Cambridge English Scale. Duolingo and university-issued certificates are not accepted, and TU/e requires a certificate under two years old.
• Nationals of English-speaking countries who were taught and examined entirely in English are exempt from the language test.
• Open to applicants from anywhere in the world, with no age limit; already holding a master’s degree does not disqualify you.
• Anyone who has already held an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship cannot receive a second one, and no more than 10% of the regular scholarships go to one nationality.

Application process

   Register on Politecnico di Torino’s Portale della Didattica.

   Log in and fill in the HySET application there; it can be completed in stages and edited until the deadline.

   Upload a Europass CV, certified degree and transcripts, two reference letters, a passport or ID card, the English certificate and a photo — anything not in English needs a notarised translation.

   Record a 2–3 minute self-introduction video covering your goals and your motivation for HySET.

   Submit before the call closes; there is one round per edition and every applicant is automatically considered for a scholarship.

   Results arrive at the end of January or the beginning of February; accept or decline within the window the letter states (the admission page says 7 days, the FAQ says 10).
