A Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) is a short course that several European universities run together: a few days on site abroad plus a compulsory online component with collaborative teamwork. Global Student Experience, the mobility office of the University of Zurich, pays UZH participants a daily allowance for the days spent abroad under the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP).
The grant goes towards travel and accommodation for the physical part of the course. It is a contribution to those costs, not full coverage.
Any UZH degree student can apply, from bachelor to doctorate, as long as UZH is part of the BIP consortium or the course is offered by a university of the Una Europa alliance.
Benefits & funding
- CHF 80 for each activity day from day 1 to day 14.
- CHF 60 for each activity day from day 15 to day 30.
- CHF 100 on top, under the SEMP eco-friendly travel grant, on proof of travel by train or bus.
- Students with a disability can apply through Global Student Experience for an additional grant at Movetia, by writing to outgoing@int.uzh.ch.
- Global Student Experience also awards separate UZH mobility scholarships to students for whom going abroad is out of the question for socioeconomic reasons.
Eligibility
- Enrolled as a degree-seeking student at UZH — bachelor, master or doctorate — for the entire duration of the BIP.
- The BIP must award at least 3 ECTS credits.
- UZH must be involved in the BIP consortium, or the BIP must be offered by a university of the Una Europa alliance.
- The whole program has to be completed, including every virtual component.
- Physical mobility lasts between 5 and 30 days.
- No nationality, residency, age or gender condition is stated.

Application process
- 1Find a BIP that UZH takes part in or that a Una Europa university offers; organizers announce their program to Global Student Experience about three months before it starts.
- 2Watch for the registration link and instructions, which Global Student Experience sends participants by email.
- 3Apply in Mobility Online at least 60 days before the physical mobility starts.
- 4Agree the transfer of credits with the departmental or faculty coordinator before leaving Zurich.
- 5Complete the virtual component and the days abroad, then submit proof of train or bus travel to claim the CHF 100 eco-friendly travel grant.
