GLOCAL is a two-year, 120 ECTS international master coordinated by the University of Glasgow with six partners in Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Colombia and Japan. It studies global capitalism and how local firms, cities and regions compete within it; all teaching is in English.

Students follow one study track through three universities, ending with a dissertation semester. The degrees awarded depend on the track.

Benefits & funding

  • Erasmus Mundus scholarship: full tuition and deposit, insurance, and a monthly allowance for the whole programme.
  • Allowance: €1,400 a month, or €1,275 a month plus three €1,000 travel and installation payments.
  • Self-funded tuition, 2027–29, per year: £9,750 (UK, EU, programme-associated countries); £21,010 for all others.
  • A £2,000 deposit secures a place; every student pays their own airfares between partners.

Eligibility

  • Any nationality; no residence requirement.
  • A strict UK 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent in a listed subject (e.g. business, economics, history, international relations, sociology, sustainability); final-year students may apply.
  • Tracks B, F and I: at least a quarter of prior study (60 ECTS) in economics, business, modern or economic and social history, sociology or politics.
  • Applicants from non-majority English-speaking countries need an English test, e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6.0.
  • One track per application; Track H is closed for 2027.
  • Scholarship: needs a Glasgow offer and no previous EMJM scholarship; at most 6 regular awards per nationality over four editions.

Application process

    Choose one track and complete the GLOCAL scholarship or self-funding form.

    Apply through the University of Glasgow online portal; email submissions are refused.

    Provide two references dated within 24 months on institutional letterhead, at least one academic.

    Scholarship applicants submit every document, including English proof, by 14 January 2027, 13:00 UK time.

    Scholarship results come in April 2027; later self-funded applications are decided on a rolling basis.
