The Master Mind Scholarship is funded by the Government of Flanders and awarded through Ghent University to academically outstanding international students entering a master’s programme in Flanders/Brussels. It supports one year of study for 60-ECTS programmes and two years for 120-ECTS programmes. Around 30 scholarships are distributed across Flemish institutions each year, with roughly 6 allocated to Ghent University. Candidates are nominated internally by their programme coordinators and shortlisted by the university before final selection by the Flemish Government.

Benefits & funding

  • Grant of up to €10,225 per academic year toward living and study costs.
  • Tuition-fee waiver: the recipient pays only the lowest local rate (€136.50 for 2026-2027) instead of the international fee.
  • Duration: one academic year (60-ECTS master’s) or two academic years (120-ECTS master’s).
  • Cannot be combined with other Flemish government scholarships, Erasmus+/Erasmus Mundus, BAEF, or Fulbright awards.

Eligibility

  • Open to all nationalities except Russian nationals.
  • Must be a new international student admitted to a Ghent University master’s programme (including advanced masters); not previously enrolled at, or holding a degree from, a Flemish institution.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 on the most recent bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • English proficiency: at least IELTS 7.0 / TOEFL 94 / CEFR C1 for universities (IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 90 / B2 for schools of arts), with a test no older than 3 years.
  • Preparatory, bridging and distance-learning programmes are not eligible.
  • A number of places are reserved for priority countries (e.g. Japan, Mexico, Palestine, USA).

Application process

    Apply for and gain admission to an eligible Ghent University master’s programme before the April 1 admission deadline.

    Your programme coordinator nominates up to two candidates with a motivation and ranking.
  3. 3
    The International Relations Office screens nominations and submits a shortlist (maximum 20) to the Flemish Government.
  4. 4
    The Flemish Government makes the final selection; shortlisted students are notified in spring.
