HIEA is Hanyang University’s merit scholarship for international undergraduate and graduate students already enrolled for at least one semester. It refunds part of one semester’s tuition, ranked on grades and language scores.
It runs at the Seoul and ERICA (Ansan) campuses, with applications through the HY-in portal in early March and early September each year. The Fall 2026 Seoul round closed on 30 September 2026; exact spring dates come in a new notice.
Benefits & funding
- One semester’s tuition refunded at 30%, 50%, 70% or 100% by rank (Seoul and ERICA international office pages); the university’s main scholarship page lists 30%, 50% or 70%.
- Recipient numbers and amounts may change each semester.
- Tuition is paid first and refunded later (October for the Fall 2026 Seoul round).
Eligibility
- Foreign-citizen students enrolled at Hanyang for at least one semester, admitted through the route for students whose parents are both foreign nationals, or (graduate only) after completing all schooling abroad; Korean nationals cannot apply.
- Previous-semester GPA: 3.0 for undergraduates; for graduates, 4.2 in the Fall 2026 Seoul guide (4.0 on the Seoul and ERICA overview pages).
- A valid TOPIK result; English-track students may use IELTS 7 or TOEFL iBT 93 instead.
- Excluded: leave of absence, completed-not-graduated, extra semesters, unpaid tuition, combined master’s–PhD students past seven semesters, and holders of outside scholarships that bar double awards (e.g. KGSP).
