HIEA is a Hanyang University merit scholarship for international undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least one semester at the university. It refunds part of one semester’s tuition after academic and language-score evaluation.
The scheme runs at the Seoul and ERICA campuses, with campus-specific graduate GPA thresholds and notices. The currently published Seoul cycle is for Fall 2026 and applications are submitted through HY-in.
Benefits & funding
- Hanyang’s scholarship overview lists tuition refunds at 30%, 50%, 70%, or 100% for one semester, awarded by evaluation rank.
- The number of recipients and award amounts may vary each semester.
- Students pay tuition first; the current Seoul guide says the scholarship is credited to the recipient’s account in October.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be international undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at Hanyang University who have completed at least one semester and paid the current semester’s tuition.
- Eligible admission routes include students whose parents both hold foreign citizenship and, for graduate study, students admitted after completing their prior education outside Korea; campus notices define the precise route.
- The previous-semester minimum is GPA 3.0 for undergraduates, GPA 4.2 for Seoul graduate students, and GPA 4.0 for ERICA graduate students.
- A valid TOPIK result is required; current Seoul English-track applicants may instead submit IELTS 7 or TOEFL iBT 93 or above.
- Current Seoul exclusions include leave, completed-but-not-graduated status, extended study, unpaid tuition, and more than seven semesters in a combined master’s–PhD program.
- Students holding an external scholarship that forbids concurrent awards, including the examples named by Hanyang, cannot apply; ERICA also excludes graduate recipients of its Science and Engineering Promotion Scholarship.
