The Feminist Leadership Accelerator for Change (FLAC) is the flagship fellowship of the Soul City Institute for Social Justice, a South Africa–based feminist organisation. Now recruiting its third cohort, FLAC is a 12-month learning and co-creation programme that nurtures feminist consciousness and grows the leadership capacity of young African women. Fellows move through ten modules — from gender healing and African feminist thought to sexual and reproductive justice, economic and climate justice, media and advocacy, and job readiness — combining immersive learning, peer dialogue, and practical community action.

Eligibility

  • Self-identify as a woman.
  • Aged between 19 and 25 at the time of application.
  • Hold at least a high school certificate, diploma, or undergraduate degree.
  • Reside in South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, or Zimbabwe.
  • Genuine commitment to social justice and feminist principles; a track record of community leadership or activism in women’s rights is preferred.
  • Rural women and persons with disabilities are actively encouraged to apply.

Application process

    Prepare a CV (3 pages maximum) describing your community leadership.

    Write a motivation letter on your interest in the fellowship and your activism background.

    Record a 2–3 minute video on your passion for social justice and the change you want to drive.

    Secure two community reference letters (not personal contacts) and one educator or lecturer reference.
  6. 6
    Submit all materials before the deadline.
