Euro-Asian Master in Medical Technology and Healthcare Business (EMMaH)

EMMaH is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master built by four universities: the University of Lille in France, which coordinates it through its health engineering and management faculty UFR3S-ILIS, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany, Instituto Politécnico do Porto in Portugal, and Taipei Medical University in Taiwan. It studies medical technology through three lenses at once — biomedical engineering, healthcare, and business.

The degree runs 24 months over four semesters, each spent at a different university. Semester 1 in Hamburg is engineering-led, semester 2 in Porto is health and clinical, semester 3 in Lille covers healthcare business and management, and semester 4 is the master thesis, which students may take at Taipei Medical University.

The thesis can be supervised by any partner university and an optional internship can be done anywhere in the world. Graduates receive a joint diploma co-signed by the European partners, plus an MSc from Taipei Medical University depending on where the thesis is done. Twelve associated partners, including IQVIA, Air Liquide, Bayer Healthcare, Siemens Healthineers and Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute, back the programme.

Benefits & funding

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship: €1,400 per month for the full 24 months, with the participation fees waived and living costs such as travel, accommodation and visa covered.
The EMJM scholarship is open to applicants worldwide, but only to first-time Erasmus Mundus beneficiaries, and no more than 10% of the scholarships awarded over the project may go to candidates of the same nationality.
UFA grant: €350 per month for cross-border mobility, covering one or two semesters depending on the student’s situation, with language training options.
Erasmus+ mobility grant for a single semester: €170 to €270 per month for European destinations, €750 per month for the Taiwan mobility; it can be combined with other funding.
Moblilex grant, administered by the University of Lille, for semester 4 mobility.
Participation fees for self-funded students: €4,243 per year for students from EU and associated countries, €7,770 per year for everyone else.
Those fees cover tuition registration, teaching activities, student services, and health, liability, accident and assistance insurance; they exclude travel, visas and living costs.

Eligibility

A higher education undergraduate degree — a bachelor, licence or equivalent of 180 ECTS.
Expected background: health sciences, biomedical engineering, audiology, clinical physiology, medical imaging, radiation therapy or equivalent.
Prior study of calculus, linear algebra and ordinary differential equations.
The whole programme is taught in English: non-native speakers need CEFR B2 or equivalent — IELTS 6.0 to 6.5, TOEFL iBT 88, Cambridge First or Advanced — or two years of full-time study in English.
Degree and academic transcript must come with an English translation; the transcript must show the average grade.
A passport or ID valid for at least two more years, and a certificate of current residence address.
One recommendation letter carrying an official stamp and the referee’s email.
A CV in Europass format or at most three pages; professional experience is valued but not required.
Open to all nationalities, with no residency requirement; the EMJM scholarship is limited to first-time Erasmus Mundus beneficiaries.

The selection board approves the final ranking, averaging the electronic application score (40%) with the interview (60%).

About 40 candidates come out of selection: roughly 20 are offered admission and roughly 20 are placed on a reserve list.
