STEPS is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master led by the University of Oviedo (Spain) with Kiel University (Germany), Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) and the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (Portugal).

It is a two-year, 120 ECTS programme taught in English, with Sustainable Transportation and Electrical Power Systems tracks. Students study in Rome or Coimbra, then Kiel and Oviedo, and spend the fourth semester on an internship and thesis at a partner university or company. Graduates receive a joint degree recognised in all four countries.

Benefits & funding

  • Full Erasmus Mundus scholarship: tuition plus €1,400 a month toward living costs, up to 24 months.
  • Tuition-fee waiver: fees covered, no monthly allowance.
  • Award numbers are set each year; no more than two scholars of the same nationality.
  • Self-funded: €4,500 per semester (€18,000 in total), half at enrolment and half before 31 December; fees may be revised.

Eligibility

  • Open to all nationalities; selection is on merit only.
  • A bachelor’s in engineering (at least three years and 180 ECTS, or equivalent); the new-students page also invites those about to graduate in electrical engineering.
  • Non-native English speakers need B2: IELTS Academic 6 (5.5 per band), TOEFL 79 (writing 17, reading 18, speaking 20) or PTE Academic 55 (51 per part), taken within two years of registration.
  • Scholarships require full-time enrolment and no other EU grant for this course; Partner Country status needs under 12 months’ residence or main activity in a Programme Country over the last five years.

Application process

    Register on the online application system and submit the form in English with digital certificates and transcripts, stating whether you seek an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, by 8 January 2027 (homepage; the admission page’s standard calendar gives 15 January).

    The 40 to 60 best-ranked candidates are interviewed, possibly by videoconference.

    Preselected candidates post hard copies of all attachments before the assigned deadline.

    Admitted students enrol in June.
