EMJM PROMISE is a 24-month joint master in sustainable mineral and metal processing engineering delivered by a four-university consortium. Students study in Oulu and Leoben before following a pathway in Zagreb or Valparaíso, then complete a thesis with a consortium university or industry partner.
The September 2026 intake was cancelled. The consortium expects its next scholarship call in autumn 2027 if its follow-up grant application succeeds.
Benefits & funding
- The full Erasmus Mundus scholarship pays €1,400 per month for 24 months, waives tuition fees and includes EACEA-compliant insurance.
- Literature, accommodation, travel, visa or residence-permit costs, computers, mobility and other study costs are not paid separately; the monthly scholarship is intended to cover them.
- Applicants who rank highly without receiving a scholarship may be offered a self-funded place; insurance is included, but tuition fees apply.
Eligibility
- Applicants of any nationality may apply.
- Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in mineral processing, mining, metallurgy, chemical engineering, materials, geological engineering or a related engineering field when applying.
- The transcript must include mathematics and either chemistry or physics.
- Applicants must satisfy one of the published English-language routes, such as IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each section or TOEFL iBT 92 with at least 20 in each section.
- Previous Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship recipients may apply only through the self-funded route.

Application process
- 1Complete the PROMISE online application during an open campaign.
- 2Upload certified English copies of the bachelor’s diploma and transcript, proof of nationality, a one-page motivation letter, at least one recommendation letter, an accepted English certificate and a photo-bearing Europass CV.
- 3Submit the complete application through the official portal by the deadline; eligible general-call applications are automatically considered for the scholarship.
- 4If selected, confirm participation and complete the University of Oulu study-right process through Studyinfo.fi.
