Benefits & funding

• EMJM full scholarship: tuition waived plus €1,400 per month for travel, installation and living costs, for the whole programme up to 24 months.
• The full scholarship also covers insurance and the other mandatory costs of participation.
• Fee-waiver scholarship: tuition covered, no monthly allowance.
• Self-paying route: €4,500 per semester for non-European students (€18,000 for the programme) and €2,250 per semester for European students (€9,000 for the programme), paid in four equal instalments to Universidad de Oviedo.
• Scholarship holders pay no tuition at all.
• Students from EU programme countries and from non-EU partner countries are both eligible for the scholarship.
• Graduates receive a 120-ECTS joint master degree from the partner universities.

Eligibility

• A bachelor degree or equivalent university degree of 180 ECTS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, automotive or aerospace, sensor technologies, or a related engineering or science subject.
• B1 in the teaching language of the country of the first study year, B2 recommended, plus at least A2 in the teaching language of the second country.
• Teaching languages are Spanish in Oviedo, German in Karlsruhe, French in Besançon and English in Skövde; basic Swedish is suggested for students going to Skövde.
• Complete grade lists from the previous degree; professional background is desirable, not required.
• Open to all nationalities, with no residency requirement.
• Anyone who already holds an Erasmus Mundus master or joint doctorate scholarship cannot take a second one.
• Year two requires at least two 30-ECTS periods in programme countries other than the student’s own country.

Application process

   Watch the prospective students page: the call for the 2027/2029 intake opens on 1 October 2026, and the application link appears there.

   Register in the online application system at emjmdeu4m.em.uniovi.es, then fill in and submit the form before the deadline.

   Attach the digital documents: CV in Europass format, a motivation letter of at most 250 words, signed reference letters, language certificates, and a passport or ID copy.

   State on the form whether you would accept a fee-waiver scholarship or are applying for a full scholarship only.

   Submit by 15 January to be considered for an EMJM scholarship, or by 15 May as a self-paying applicant.

   Be ready for a telephone or video interview during selection.

   Informal results go out between 1 and 15 March, with the official decision on 15 April; self-paying decisions follow on 15 June.

   Confirm your place by 30 June, complete the enrolment documents by 15 July, and finish enrolment by 31 July.

   Admitted students then post hard copies of the required attachments to the coordinating university.
