Erasmus Mundus joint Master in Artificial Intelligence (EMAI)

Benefits & funding

• A joint 120 ECTS master degree issued by the four partner universities, with the European Supplement from the coordinating university.
• Erasmus Mundus Scholarship: a non-taxable monthly stipend of €1,400 for the full 24 months of the programme.
• The scholarship covers all participation costs, including tuition, travel and installation, living costs, visa fees, full insurance and any other mandatory costs.
• For the 2026-2028 cohort the committee selected approximately 19 full Erasmus Mundus Scholarships and 18 full fee-waivers.
• A full fee-waiver covers tuition for both years, participation in all EMAI activities with no extra fees, and two years of health insurance; it carries no living allowance.
• Self-funded tuition is €9,000 a year, with a 50% discount for EU students, so €4,500 a year.
• Scholarship and fee-waiver applicants pay nothing to register or apply during the application periods.
• Four specialisation strands: Intelligent Decision Making in Spain, Robotics in Italy, Cyber Security in the Netherlands, Data Science in Slovenia.
• The second year carries a 15 ECTS research internship and the 30 ECTS master thesis.

Eligibility

• A bachelor or master degree of at least 180 ECTS in a field related to artificial intelligence.
• At least 12 ECTS in mathematics covering calculus, linear algebra and statistics.
• At least 12 ECTS in programming covering algorithms and data structures.
• At least 12 ECTS in computing science covering cryptography, security or networks.
• English proficiency of TOEFL 90, IELTS 6.5 or Cambridge C1 or C2, with a certificate issued in the last two years; waived if the bachelor degree was obtained in one of the countries listed in the application requirements.
• Open to every nationality and country of residence: scholarships and fee-waivers can go to students from anywhere in the world.
• No more than 10% of the scholarships awarded across the first four editions of the programme may go to candidates of one nationality.
• A previous Erasmus Mundus joint master award, or another EU-funded scholarship for the same programme, rules out a scholarship.
• A master degree already held is not a bar; relevant earlier training should be declared.

Application process

   Apply through the online form on the application page during a published period.

   Worldwide self-funded candidates apply from 15 November 2026 to 5 June 2027 at 23:59 CEST.

   EU self-funded candidates apply from 6 June to 6 July 2027 at 23:59 CEST; the scholarship period for this round is not published yet.

   Upload the mandatory documents: passport or identity document, degree certificate, full transcript with grades and CGPA, a CV of at most two pages in English, a motivation letter of 600 to 800 words in English, the English certificate and the EMAI Student Supplement Questionnaire.

   Scholarship candidates add a one-minute introduction video and two recommendation letters; self-funded candidates send one recommendation letter.

   The selection committee ranks the files, then invites shortlisted candidates to an interview of 10 to 15 minutes.

   Results go out on a rolling basis; in the previous round the site promised scholarship decisions before 10 March, fee-waiver decisions by 1 June, non-EU self-funded decisions by 25 June and EU self-funded decisions by 20 July.

   Enrolment takes place in September each year.
