E-PiCo+ is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master run by five institutions: Centrale Nantes in France as coordinator, Kiel University in Germany, the University of L’Aquila in Italy, Politehnica Bucharest in Romania and CINVESTAV in Mexico.

It trains engineers for electric mobility: power electronics, motor and vehicle control, embedded systems, battery management, and the retrofitting of combustion cars to electric drive. The degree is 120 ECTS over four equally weighted semesters, taught entirely in English.

Everyone spends the first semester at Centrale Nantes and the second at another partner, so study in at least two countries is compulsory; the third semester is a specialisation at any of the five partners and the fourth is a 30 ECTS thesis. The programme received the Erasmus Mundus label in 2020 and was renewed in July 2024 for four further cohorts.

Benefits & funding

  • Erasmus+ EMJM scholarship: full tuition waiver plus €1,400 per month for the 24 months of the programme, as a contribution to travel, visa, installation and living costs.
  • 20 Erasmus+ scholarships a year for the editions running from 2025 to 2030, open to students from anywhere in the world.
  • Consortium tuition scholarships for strong applicants who miss the Erasmus+ award: ranks 1–3 get the whole tuition waived, ranks 4–6 a 75% reduction and ranks 7–9 a 50% reduction, awarded in each of the two country categories.
  • Self-funded tuition is €9,000 for the two years for programme-country students and €18,000 for partner-country students.
  • Third-semester specialisation at any of the five partners, covering power electronics, control, embedded systems, battery management and AI for electric vehicles.
  • Fourth-semester thesis worth 30 ECTS, jointly supervised and open to an industrial placement, with more than 20 associated university and industry partners around the consortium.
  • Local language courses during the first year alongside the English-taught curriculum.

Eligibility

  • Open to applicants of any nationality; European and non-European candidates apply through the same platform and are ranked on separate lists.
  • A first university degree worth 180 ECTS from at least three years of study, in electrical engineering, control systems, mechatronics or a closely related field.
  • Non-European applicants must have graduated by 31 July; European applicants have until 30 September.
  • English proof required: TOEFL iBT 80, CBT 220 or ITP 550, IELTS 6.5, Cambridge B2 First 173, Cambridge C1 Advanced 160, or TOEIC 800, taken within the last three years.
  • Applicants taught and examined in English may apply without a test if their university confirms it in writing, though a score strengthens the file.
  • No age limit, work-experience minimum or residency requirement is set for admission.

Application process

    Wait for the application platform at epico.ec-nantes.fr to open on 1 November 2026 and create an account.

    Upload the CV, a passport or identity card scan, certified degrees and transcripts with English translations, the motivation letter on the mandatory template, and the English certificate.

    Submit by 31 January 2027 to be considered for the Erasmus+ and consortium scholarships, or by 30 April 2027 if paying your own fees.

    Attend an online interview if you are ranked near the top of the main list and in the Erasmus+ scholarship pool; this is pre-selection, not admission.

    Accept the offer and sign the Student Agreement setting out the rules of the programme.
