Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Sustainable Design, Construction and Management of the Built Environment

MBUILD is a 120-ECTS joint master delivered and awarded by the University of Porto, the University of Cantabria and Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen. Students study successively in Porto, Giessen and Santander during the first three semesters.

The fourth semester is a dissertation at one of the partner universities, potentially in collaboration with an associated institution. The curriculum connects sustainable strategy, design, construction and management across the built environment.

Benefits & funding

The 2026/27 edition offers 30 places, all self-funded; students cover tuition, travel, living and other participation costs.
Annual tuition is €2,500 for students from EU countries, €3,300 for students from CPLP countries and €6,000 for non-EU students.
Enrolled students receive health and accident insurance, access to libraries and laboratories, student services, reasonable visa-application support and a welcome week.
The programme comprises 120 ECTS over two years and awards a joint master diploma from the three partner universities.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or architecture before enrolment; related backgrounds such as building or construction engineering, construction management, structural engineering and technical architecture may also be assessed.
The prior degree should normally represent at least 180 ECTS or, outside the European framework, at least three years and six full semesters.
Applicants whose first language is not English need approved English evidence equivalent to B2, normally taken within two years of registration, unless they qualify for the published English-medium education waiver.
Applicants of any nationality may apply; the programme states that EU and non-EU applicants face no nationality restriction.
