GeoPlaNet is a 120-ECTS Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Planetary Geosciences delivered by partner universities in Coimbra, Chieti-Pescara and Nantes. It trains students through research in planetary geosciences, numerical methods, space-mission data and virtual-reality tools.
Students study one semester in each of Portugal, Italy and France, then complete a worldwide research internship in the fourth semester. The 2026 intake is closed, and the programme selects applicants through eligibility screening, file-based preselection and a remote interview.
Benefits & funding
- Around 15 Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available per cohort, paying up to €1,400 per month for 24 months.
- Scholarship holders pay no programme registration fees, and programme insurance is covered; the stipend is intended to cover travel, visa, accommodation and living costs.
- Non-scholarship holders may join through the same selection process and pay about €4,000 per year, or €8,000 for two years, while programme insurance remains covered.
- Graduates earn a joint degree from the University of Coimbra, Università Gabriele d’Annunzio di Chieti-Pescara and Nantes Université.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold, or complete by 31 July, a bachelor-level degree of at least 180 ECTS in Earth science, physics, mathematics, astrophysics, geology, geospatial sciences or engineering.
- Degrees in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, IT or computer sciences are not eligible.
- Applicants need English at B2 level or above; native English speakers and graduates of degrees taught entirely in English may use the stated exemptions.
- The programme accepts applicants of all nationalities; Erasmus Mundus awards are capped at six scholarship holders of any one nationality across the four funded cohorts.
