The CEES Fellowship Program brings scholars to the University of Zurich for independent research on Eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus or Central Asia. The Center for Eastern European Studies runs the residential program.
The Spring 2027 round offers five to six fellowships of up to four months, starting in mid-February. Fellows join CEES academic activities and share their work through a presentation and publication.
Benefits & funding
- A living-expense stipend, travel support and administrative costs in Switzerland are covered for a stay of up to four months.
- Fellows receive library access, workspace and help finding housing in the Zurich area.
- Fellows must present their research and publish their findings through a CEES outlet.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be young or mid-career scholars in the humanities or social sciences researching the program’s stated regions.
- Applicants must be enrolled or employed at their home university.
- All nationalities may apply; CEES prefers residents of Russia, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus or Central Asia.
- All relevant proposals are eligible, with Spring 2027 interest focused on South Caucasus geopolitics, economic connectivity, and transnational social or cultural issues.
