Cartography M.Sc. is an English-taught international master’s coordinated through the Technical University of Munich with study periods in Munich, Vienna and Dresden. The curriculum combines cartography, geoinformatics, web mapping, mobile and 3D cartography, plus online modules.
The four-semester program admits up to 25 students from around the world each year. Students complete coursework across the partner locations and choose an eligible consortium university for their fourth-semester thesis.
Benefits & funding
- The program does not currently offer scholarships; students enroll on a self-funded basis.
- Published total program fees range from EUR 751.20 to EUR 1,089.20 for EU nationals and EUR 1,452.72 to EUR 2,179.44 for non-EU nationals, depending on the thesis location.
- Optional University of Twente online modules cost EUR 1,615 each, or EUR 808 for nationals of countries on the OECD development-assistance list.
- The compulsory ten-day Alpine field excursion has an estimated cost of about EUR 800.
Eligibility
- Applicants need a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in cartography, geo-information, geography, geodesy, geology, computer science or a related field.
- English proof may be IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 88, TOEFL CbT 234, TOEFL PbT 605, Cambridge CAE or CPE at level A, B or C, or PTE Academic 65; native speakers and applicants whose prior university education was in English may qualify for an exemption.
- Applications are open to all nationalities, with no stated residency, age or work-experience requirement; practical geo-field experience is an advantage rather than a requirement.

- 1Apply through TUMonline and, if the qualifying degree was not earned in Germany, obtain a preliminary documentation certificate through uni-assist.
- 2Upload the passport, current CV, one-to-two-page motivation letter, academic transcript, two recommendation letters, English evidence and any required VPD or APS document.
