Official Page

Bolder Futures runs this autumn fellowship, sponsored by Micron, to close the gap between fast-moving AI tools and the social sector. Each fellow works through a practical AI curriculum and applies it to a defined project for a nonprofit they already have a relationship with, such as an employer, an internship host, or a place they volunteer. The whole program happens online over 12 weeks, at 8–10 hours a week, with the nonprofit partner contributing 1–3 hours a week.

The 2025 round was the inaugural cohort of 15 fellows, who built things like a membership survey and community storytelling dashboards. The 2026 cohort runs from September to December 2026.

Benefits & funding

  • US$2,000 stipend for fellows who complete the program successfully; Bolder Futures notes that a comparable paid upskilling program is worth US$7,000 or more.
  • Hands-on, interactive AI training built around immediate real-world application rather than theory.
  • Structured one-to-one check-ins and group office hours with an experienced AI consultant.
  • A working network of fellows and nonprofit leaders built across the cohort.
  • The program is sponsored by Micron and delivered entirely online.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • No prior AI knowledge or skill is expected.
  • Undergraduate students, graduate students, and early-career professionals are prioritised; mid-career professionals and people changing careers are also welcome.
  • Stipends can only be issued to people with U.S. tax status, such as a Social Security Number or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
  • A signed letter of commitment from a nonprofit partner is required at the time of application. The partner must be a registered 501(c)(3) organisation under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
  • The nonprofit must be one the applicant already knows through employment, an internship, volunteering, or a similar existing connection, and must offer a meaningful, time-limited project.
  • Fellows need consistent access to a stable internet connection and a computer, and commit 8–10 hours a week.
  • Availability between 9am and 5pm Pacific Time receives the highest priority in selection. It is a preference, not a requirement.
