AISS is a two-year, 120-ECTS Erasmus Mundus Joint Master taught in English, run by Tallinn University with Lusófona University (Portugal) and Tampere University (Finland). It pairs AI and data work with participatory design for sustainable societies.

Students spend semester 1 in Tallinn, semester 2 in Porto and semester 3 in Tampere on a project course with real clients; semester 4 is a placement and thesis in a city of their choice. Graduates receive three master’s degrees.

Benefits & funding

  • €1,400 a month for the ten best-ranked admitted applicants, for up to 24 months, covering insurance, mobility travel, housing and food.
  • Scholarship holders still need their own money for the visa trip and for costs until the first payment in early October.
  • Tuition-paying places: €2,000 per semester (€8,000 in all); self-funded students may apply for Erasmus+ mobility grants.
  • Three master’s degrees, one from each university.

Eligibility

  • A bachelor’s degree, diploma of professional higher education or equivalent; IT, design, communication or social-science backgrounds are preferred, none barred.
  • English at B2, e.g. IELTS 6.5 (5.5 per part), TOEFL iBT 92 (no section under 20; 4 in each section from 21 January 2026), PTE 62, Cambridge 169. Study in English exempts only if completed fully in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Switzerland or EU/EEA.
  • Open to all nationalities; no more than 10% of scholarships go to one nationality.
  • Past Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship holders cannot receive another.

Application process

    Apply in DreamApply (estonia.dreamapply.com) between 2 December 2026 and 2 February 2027.

    Upload degree documents, passport page and English proof, plus a motivation video (max 1 min 30 s), a portfolio of up to five works, a two-page CV and a self-funding plan.

    Shortlisted applicants take a 15-minute interview in English.
  4. 4
    Documents and interview each score up to 50, with at least 35 needed in each; 70 of 100 is needed to enrol.
