The Graduate School of Child Development and Education at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) awards Amsterdam Merit Scholarships, funded by the UvA, to outstanding non-EEA students on its Research Master in Child Development and Education.
The programme is taught in Amsterdam and starts each September. Students admitted to the Pedagogical Sciences master’s Youth at Risk track can also receive the award.
Benefits & funding
- Amount not published: the programme’s fee page calls it a portion of the tuition fee, exact sum not yet known; the faculty page says it varies per graduate school.
- Not a tuition waiver: recipients still pay the full fee; the money is transferred once they accept the conditions in writing.
- Granted for a specific academic year; it cannot be moved to another year.
Eligibility
- Non-EEA nationality only: every country outside the EEA (listed in the record); anyone also holding an EEA passport is excluded.
- Not entitled to Dutch student finance (studiefinanciering) and not eligible for the UvA’s reduced EEA tuition rate.
- No full-coverage scholarship for the same study period.
- A complete application to, and (conditional) admission to, the Research Master; final-year bachelor’s students may apply but must graduate by 1 August.
- Able to meet Dutch visa conditions, where these apply.
Application process
- 1Apply for the Research Master via Studielink and the UvA form, ticking the UvA scholarship box; a €100 fee applies to international bachelor’s diplomas.
- 2Email a motivation letter and a budget plan to resma-cde-fmg@uva.nl before 15 January.
- 3Recipients confirm the award conditions in writing before payment.
