Benefits & funding

• Global Award: €7,000 to the winner, €3,000 to each of the other finalists
• Thematic Award (Allianz Trade): €7,000 to the winner
• Regional Award (Asia): €7,000 to the winner
• No entry fee is published. The award is targeted at independent researchers only, not at companies or institutions
• Global-track finalists: Allianz Re, and Allianz Trade for its own participants, cover a flight or train to and from Munich, local transport, hotel, one dinner and one lunch. The trip is booked for arrival one day before the event and departure on the afternoon or evening of the event day
• Regional-track finalists: Allianz Asia-Pacific covers flights to and from Singapore, local transport and hotel, plus travel to and from Munich and two nights of accommodation there
• The inviting Allianz entity can provide an official invitation letter for the visa authorities. Allianz handles no other part of the visa process
• Applicants keep the full right to publish the same work in a peer-reviewed journal. Allianz takes a non-exclusive licence to use the research for publicity around the award, including an essay compendium and interviews
• The prize money is paid only if the winner attends the award event and presents during the reserved time slot. Prizes are personal and non-transferable, and any tax on them is the winner’s responsibility
• Extra nights in Munich beyond the event day are at the finalist’s own cost

Eligibility

• Individual authors only. The award is targeted at independent researchers, so a company or an institution cannot apply
• Current PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers who defended their PhD no more than two years before the application date. Anyone who defended within that window may apply regardless of their current position
• The research project must have advanced beyond the conceptual phase and reached a level of maturity where the anticipated results are clearly presentable and articulable
• One paper per applicant, and one application per author. An applicant unsure which track fits may tick more than one on the form, and Allianz Re then re-assigns the application to the category it judges the best fit
• On a group research project, the project lead or main author applies as an individual. If that project reaches the final, the prize money and the travel costs go to that individual only
• No nationality requirement and no residency requirement. The FAQ states the award has global reach and that an applicant’s location does not matter
• No age limit, no gender requirement and no minimum years of work experience are published
• Global-track finalists must attend the Munich event in person and present their work. Regional-track finalists must attend the Singapore event on 26 October 2026 in person. The thematic and regional winners must also attend the Munich event in person and present. Allianz Trade reserves the right to hold its thematic event virtually

Application process

   Choose the track — Global, Thematic (Allianz Trade) or Regional (Asia) — and tick it at the top of the application form.

   Complete Part A of the form: the research topic in up to 100 characters, the author, the institution and field of study, the aim of the research in up to 300 characters, an abstract of up to 250 words, the methodology, and up to three classification keywords from a list running from risk modelling and remote sensing to global trade and supply chain impacts.

   Complete Parts B and C: personal details including birth country, residence country and date of birth; qualifications and professional experience; how the paper could contribute to insurance or trade credit insurance solutions; the motivation for writing it; where the work leads next in the applicant’s career; and a list of all publications, co-authorships included.

   Write the non-technical essay of up to 800 words. It must be based on the applicant’s own research and written under their own name, with a link to the published paper where one exists. Up to three figures are allowed, and the word limit counts the main text only.

   Prepare the CV, a letter of recommendation from an academic mentor, and the declaration form from the award website, signed and scanned.

   Email the form and every attachment to climaterisk-award@allianz.com by 31 August 2026. Submissions that arrive late, or that are illegible or incomplete, are not considered.

   Wait for the finalist notification in late September 2026, sent by email and followed by a public announcement on the website, then present in person in Singapore or Munich.
