You and Europe supports students from selected European countries who plan to complete a three- or four-semester master’s degree in Germany. Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S. and the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes jointly developed and finance the programme.
Recipients study at a German university while joining a European network built around dialogue, cultural diversity and European cohesion. The programme normally funds the standard master’s duration, usually two years.
Benefits & funding
- A need-based monthly scholarship of EUR 300 to EUR 1,112 for the standard duration of the master’s programme, with possible health-insurance subsidies, family allowance and justified extensions.
- Two European network meetings each year; accommodation, meals and programme fees are covered, while travel is subsidised.
- Optional Europe-focused Studienstiftung activities cover accommodation, meals and programme fees, with travel subsidised.
- Access to a digital programme space and an optional local peer contact in the recipient’s university town.
Eligibility
- For the fall 2026 call, the page’s main notice lists citizens of Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Greece, Greenland, Ireland, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland; its detailed requirements omit Albania, the Netherlands and Slovenia, so applicants from those three countries should confirm eligibility with the foundation.
- Applicants must plan a three- or four-semester master’s programme in Germany, including eligible binational programmes; German-university admission is due by the funding start, not at application.
- All disciplines are eligible except study at colleges of art and music and visual or performing arts, design, film or music at universities of applied sciences.
- Applicants should rank among the top 10–15% in prior studies, show outstanding academic commitment, have a strong interest in European issues and be fluent in English; German is not required for admission.
- Applicants must normally move into the master’s without undue delay after the bachelor’s; gaps longer than 12 months need justification, and prior enrolment in a master’s is considered only exceptionally.
- Anyone who completed a higher-education entrance qualification or bachelor’s degree in Germany is ineligible.

Application process
- 1Ask a university professor to submit the required nomination by 4 February.
- 2After a successful nomination, the professor submits a subject-specific recommendation in the applicant’s field.
- 3Invited candidates receive a private application-form link by email and submit their documents by 23 February.
