The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education jointly fund one or two scholarships a year for the regular or research MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft, in Delft, the Netherlands.
It runs under the WMO Fellowships Programme, which builds skills in national meteorological and hydrological services. WMO’s 2026 opportunities list sets the nomination deadline at the end of April each year for an October start; the 2026 round has closed.
Benefits & funding
- WMO’s 2026 opportunities list calls this an IHE and WMO full fellowship. WMO says its fellowships may cover tuition and academic costs, international travel, a monthly stipend and medical insurance; the IHE Delft page gives no amount.
- Fellows are expected to return to their national service to apply what they learned and must submit transcripts and a final report.
Eligibility
- Citizens of developing countries (OECD DAC list; names below).
- Unconditional admission to the IHE Delft MSc or Research MSc in Water and Sustainable Development (a good Bachelor’s in a relevant field).
- Nomination by your country’s Permanent Representative with WMO; the PR may prefer staff of the national meteorological or hydrological service, and WMO’s own page asks for staff of these services or relevant national institutions.
- Medically fit.
Application process
- 1Apply for and obtain unconditional admission to the IHE Delft MSc.
- 2Complete the WMO Fellowship Nomination Form (English, French or Spanish).
- 3Your country’s WMO Permanent Representative approves and submits it to WMO by the deadline (the end of April each year).
