Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington gives new international postgraduate students a NZ$10,000 award against their tuition fees. The money is credited to the fee account for one year of study and is never paid out in cash.
Holders study full-time on campus in Wellington, New Zealand, in a Master’s degree of 120, 180 or 240 points or a 120-point Postgraduate Diploma. The University’s International Office administers the award.
There is no scholarship form. Every eligible programme application is assessed for the award as part of admission, and the number of awards varies from intake to intake.

Eligibility
- New students entering a Victoria University of Wellington Master’s degree or Postgraduate Diploma, paying full international fees.
- Holds a conditional or unconditional Offer of Place for an eligible qualification.
- Enrols full-time and studies on campus.
- Open to applicants of any nationality, except that New Zealand and Australian citizens, permanent residents, resident-visa holders and diplomatic-visa holders are not eligible.
- Students already enrolled at the University are not eligible; students finishing the University’s English for Academic Purposes programme or a Victoria bachelor’s degree and moving into postgraduate study may be.
- Study Abroad, Exchange and Twinning students, students granted credit transfer or advanced standing, and government-sponsored students are not eligible.
- Academic potential is judged by admission into the qualification; the University publishes no separate scoring criteria.

Application process

- 6Accept the Offer of Place; the award is applied as a credit against tuition fees.
