The University of Western Australia (UWA) runs a yearly International Scholarship Round for research doctorates and research master’s degrees. It awards Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) fee offsets and living stipends, each to a limited number of international students through competitive selection.
Recipients enrol full-time on a UWA campus in Perth. The 2027 round closed on 15 September 2026; UWA has not yet posted dates for the next round, which last opened in August.
Benefits & funding
- RTP Tuition Fees Offset: covers advertised HDR tuition for up to 4 years (doctorate) or 2 years (research master’s), full-time equivalent.
- The fee offset includes Overseas Student Health Cover, up to a family policy.
- RTP Stipend: A$39,253 a year (2027 value), awarded separately and competitively; full-time RTP stipends are tax-exempt if ATO criteria are met.
- The fee offset excludes living, travel, relocation and visa costs; RTP Allowances may help with ancillary costs such as relocation.
Eligibility
- Citizens of any country except Australia and New Zealand; Australian permanent residents count as domestic students and do not apply in this round.
- Must meet the entry requirements of a UWA research doctorate or research master’s.
- Must not already hold an equivalent tuition-fee scholarship.
- Must enrol full-time and on campus, unless UWA approves otherwise.
- UWA international students who graduated in 2025–2026, or finish their qualifying degree by end-2026, apply instead in the Domestic Round (closes 31 October 2026).

Application process
- 1Choose a course or project and secure a UWA supervisor.
- 2Apply in the online HDR application portal, selecting the International Scholarship Round; one application covers admission and scholarships.
- 3UWA’s current round advice rejects applications without evidence that a supervisor has agreed, and asks for a CV naming two academic referees (letters optional).
- 4Submit before the round closes (11:59pm AWST); late applications are not accepted.
