The United Nations Industrial Development Organization runs paid internships that provide practical experience in inclusive and sustainable industrial development and international cooperation. Placements are offered at UNIDO Headquarters in Vienna and at field offices worldwide, with assignments advertised individually as organizational needs arise.

Interns work full time under a supervisor on research, analysis, events, communications or other duties tied to the host unit. The current listings page has one Tokyo assignment with an application deadline of 17 August 2026.

Benefits & funding

  • A monthly stipend based on the duty station, intended to help cover basic living costs.
  • Full-time practical experience in a UNIDO unit for 3–6 months.
  • Fully sponsored internships arranged through partner institutions may last up to 12 months with prior approval.
  • Interns pay their own travel, visa, accommodation, insurance and personal expenses; UNIDO can provide a visa-support letter.
  • UNIDO charges no application or recruitment fee.

Eligibility

  • Academic status must meet one route: final-year Bachelor’s student; current Master’s or higher-degree student; or Bachelor’s or Master’s graduate whose internship begins within 12 months of graduation.
  • Fluency in the working language of the duty station is required; individual postings may set additional language or subject requirements.

    Review the current internship listings and select an assignment matching the applicant’s studies, languages and interests.

    Submit a separate online application for the chosen vacancy; creating a profile alone is not an application, and email submissions are not accepted.

    Only shortlisted candidates are contacted for an interview or assessment; reviewed applications may remain in UNIDO’s database for up to one year.
