The UN Women Internship Programme gives eligible students and recent graduates direct exposure to the work of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. Assignments may focus on a country, region, sector, or theme and can cover areas including communications, policy, evaluation, programme planning, research and data, finance, human resources, and information technology.
Interns commonly support the design, implementation, or evaluation of UN Women projects. Assignments depend on meaningful work and the capacity of individual units or offices to supervise interns, so location, duties, and dates vary by vacancy.
Benefits & funding
- Internships last a minimum of two months and a maximum of six months.
- Assignments may be part-time or full-time and can become available throughout the year.
- UN Women does not pay interns a salary or other remuneration. Interns without financial support from an institution or programme may receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship. Travel, insurance, accommodation, living costs, and necessary visas must otherwise be funded by the intern or a sponsoring institution.
- The programme is classified here as in-person because the published terms assign travel, accommodation, and visa arrangements to the intern or sponsor; the individual vacancy controls the actual duty station.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be enrolled in a master’s, post-master’s, or doctoral programme; be in the final year of a first university degree at bachelor’s level or equivalent; or have recently graduated from university.
- Recent graduates must be able to begin the internship within two years of graduation.
- The programme-level eligibility rules publish no nationality, residency, gender, age, or work-experience restriction. Individual vacancies may specify additional education, language, or role requirements.
